In short: Installation in the fuse box by a licensed electrician, 30–60 minutes; electrician’s fees starting at approx. €150 plus any materials that may be needed, provided the fuse box is suitable (enough space on the DIN rail). The smart meter makes your Anker SOLIX Solar Bank ready for zero-feed-in.

Anker SOLIX Smart Meter Installation: Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Preparation & Checking the Circuit Breaker Box: Turn off the main circuit breaker and verify that there is no voltage. The circuit breaker box requires approximately 4 free mounting units (MU) on the 35-mm top-hat rail; otherwise, additional materials (e.g., an expansion panel) will be needed. Have the SOLIX app and a Wi-Fi connection within range.
  2. Mounting on a DIN rail: Snap the smart meter into place on a 35-mm open top-hat rail.
  3. Connecting the current transformers: For complete home monitoring, connect all 3 phases (L1, L2, L3) to the clamp-on CTs without cutting the cables. The arrow on the transformer indicates the direction toward the power grid.
  4. Circuit Protection: Protect the device with a separate 10-A circuit breaker and connect it to the neutral terminal.
  5. Setup via app: Connect the smart meter to the Anker SOLIX app via 2.4-GHz Wi-Fi (5 GHz is not supported). The Solarbank automatically activates zero-feed-in mode.

Installation costs: Electricians typically charge starting at around €150 to install a smart meter, plus the cost of any materials that may be needed (e.g., an additional circuit breaker or expansion panel). The exact price depends on travel distance, region, and the amount of work required on-site. A prerequisite is a fuse box with sufficient free space on the DIN rail; it’s best for the electrician to check this directly on-site.

The Anker SOLIX Smart Meter functions as a grid gateway: it measures household consumption in real time across all three phases and reports the values to the Solarbank so that it can precisely adjust the feed-in power to match actual consumption. This is the basic requirement for highly efficient zero feed-in.

Key Technical Advantages for System Intelligence:

  • Real-time Load Management: The sensor monitors all three phases of the home electrical system with minimal latency. This data enables the solar bank to deliver, with millisecond precision, exactly the amount of energy currently being consumed.
  • Avoiding Grid Waste: Without a smart meter, a balcony-mounted storage system typically feeds a fixed base load into the grid. With a smart meter, not a single watt is wasted into the public grid without compensation, and self-consumption is maximized to up to 90%.
  • Anker Intelligence Connectivity: Seamless integration into the Anker SOLIX ecosystem enables comprehensive visualization of energy flow within the app (generation vs. consumption).

Technical Specifications:

  • Phases: 3-phase measurement (L1, L2, L3) for comprehensive home monitoring.
  • Operating voltage: AC 3x 230/400 V.
  • Mounting: Standard 35 mm DIN mounting rail (top-hat rail); approximately 4 free pitch units (PU) are required.
  • Environmental Conditions: Operational from -25°C to +55°C (IP51 rating).
  • Installation: Proper installation in the fuse box must be performed by a licensed electrician.
  • Compatible with: Anker SOLIX Solarbank 2 (series) and Solarbank 3 Pro. Not compatible with Solarbank E1600, MI80, or devices from other manufacturers (e.g., Deye, APsystems, Hoymiles).

Frequently Asked Questions About the Anker SOLIX Smart Meter

Can I install the smart meter myself?

No. By law, the connection in the fuse box must be made by a licensed electrician. An electrician will need about 30–60 minutes; the cost starts at about €150, plus any materials that may be needed, depending on the region and the work required on-site.

Is my fuse box compatible with the smart meter?

In most cases, yes, provided there are approximately 4 free division units (DU) on the 35-mm top-hat rail. If the enclosure is fully occupied, additional equipment, such as an expansion panel, may be required. It is best for the electrician to check this on-site.

Do you know an electrician who can handle the installation?

In the Heinsberg and Aachen areas, we can arrange for an electrician to perform the installation upon request. Just send us a message using the contact form, and we’ll put you in touch.

Do I need a solar panel system just to use the smart meter?

Yes. The Smart Meter is an add-on device for an existing Anker SOLIX Solarbank (Series 2 or Solarbank 3 Pro) or one purchased at the same time. Without a Solarbank, it measures household energy consumption but does not have any control functions.

Single-phase or three-phase—which is correct?

We always recommend 3-phase measurement (L1, L2, L3). With 1-phase measurement only, the other phases are not recorded, which leads to inaccurate control and lower self-consumption.

How is the smart meter secured?

The smart meter requires its own 10-A circuit breaker in the distribution panel. The electrician selects the appropriate circuit breaker.

How do I connect the smart meter to the Solarbank?

Works exclusively via Wi-Fi using the Anker SOLIX app; no data cable is required. Requirement: 2.4-GHz Wi-Fi reception near the circuit breaker box (5 GHz is not supported).

Does the smart meter work with the Solarbank 2 Pro?

Yes. The Anker SOLIX Smart Meter is compatible with all models in the Solarbank 2 series as well as the Solarbank 3 Pro.

How much will the installation cost in total?

Electrician costs start at approximately €150, plus any materials that may be needed, depending on the condition of the fuse box as well as travel expenses and on-site labor. You can find the current price of the device at the top of this page. Thanks to the increased self-consumption (up to 90%), the investment pays for itself quickly.

What Our Customers Say

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the benefits of using the Anker SOLIX Smart Meter in combination with the Solarbank?

It measures household consumption/grid flow and transmits the data to the Solarbank, enabling features such as self-consumption modes and more precise control.

Yes, according to Anker, it is a smart 3-phase meter.

No. According to Anker, it does not need to be connected separately to a power source; it measures voltage through the connector and current through the current transformers, and uses those values to calculate the power.

Connect to the main line on the grid-access side (not at a branch), according to the anchor. The phases must be consistent, and the arrow marking on the transformer must point toward the “grid.”

Yes. The solar bank and smart meter must be on the same local Wi-Fi network. Anker also notes that 2.4 GHz is required (5 GHz is not supported).

No. According to Anker, a smart meter can communicate with only one Solarbank Series 2 device or the Solarbank 3 Pro.

According to Anker, it is compatible with a single Solarbank from Series 2 or 3. Other microinverters/energy storage systems (e.g., Solarbank E1600, MI80, as well as devices from Deye, APsystems, Hoymiles, and others) are not currently supported.

If you are not familiar with electrical installations, Anker strongly recommends that you have the installation performed by a licensed electrician.
